Abstract

The Horn of Africa, in its traditional sense, is that part of the world that includes Somalia, Ethiopia, Eritrea and Djibouti, and this concept has been expanded to include Sudan and Kenya. As for the concept of the Greater Horn of Africa, it has expanded to include the entire East African region up to Egypt, an area of great strategic importance that controls the global shipping line and overlooks the Red Sea, the Arabian Sea, and the Indian Ocean, making it an arena for global struggles for control of global shipping lines and oil-producing areas in the Arabian Gulf. The importance of this study lies in the fact that it is useful for strategic planners to formulate policies that limit the repercussions of these variables in a way that contributes to protecting Sudanese national security. One of the most important findings of the study was the establishment of balanced and transparent relations with influential regional and international powers (such as Turkey, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and China) to avoid the impact of the changes in Ethiopia on national security.
